Cancer that begins in the cells of the liver. It is commonly caused due to viral infections such as hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV). Symptoms are uncommon in the early stages of liver cancer. Later, symptoms may include weight loss and stomach pain, Jaundice, ascites. Serum AFPis a tumor marker which is commonly elevated in hepatocellular carcinoma.
Treatments vary but may include removal of part of the liver, liver transplant, targeted chemotherapy and interventional radiology techniques.
